The book "Life of Pi" starts with Pi's point of view. He is talking about sloths telling us how slow they are, and he mentions his religious studies and his love for the zoo. He told us he misses India, but at the same time he loves Canada. Also he mentions his stayed on a Mexican hospital because he had anemia, fluid retention, among others. On the next chapters the author switch to his point of view.

Pi or Piscine Molitor grew up with his brother and family. He was named after a swimming pool, and for him that was ironically because he almost never was taken to pools when he was young; and not even his parents were the ones who teach him to swim. The next character who is introduced is Mamaji. He is a friend of the family, and a champion on swimming. He is actually called Francis Adirubasamy, but Pi prefers calling him Mamaji. He was the one who actually taught him how to swim; and because Piscine Molitor was the name of his favorite pool, Pi was named like that. When he was in school he describe his childhood as a dark time because he was ashamed of people calling him "pissing" and thats why every time he enter a new class he goes to the board and writes his name or just tells people to call him Pi. Santosh Patel, who is Pi's father runs the Pondicherry zoo. The author explains how Pi says that growing up on a zoo is a paradise, and he also discuses some points of view of the animal life. Later the zoo shut down.

The author now returns to Pi's point of view. A new character is introduced. Mr. Kumar is an atheist communist and he is Pi's favorite teacher. Both of them gain confidence with each other. Pi's father was afraid that him or Ravi, his brother, wouldnt know the danger that some animals may cause so one day he took both of them to the zoo and gave a tigger a live goat and explain the danger it can cause. Pi says the most dangerous animal in the zoo is the man. I think he said this because humans just by fedding something wrong to the animal they can kill them. Pi also explains flight distance that is the different distances that animals can be from their enemy1s. He also talks about the care you need to give each animal on the zoo. The author now starts to describe their house in Canada. He says its all fill with little christian statues and everything is about religion, they even had bibles. When he was fourteen and he enters a church for the first time he met with Father Martin. Pi told him he wanted to be christian and he answer that he already was.

The author describes meeting Meena Patel, Pi's wife, whose existences was a shock to him. He also meets his two children: Nikhil and Usha.
